Spring Beauties

The winter whose arrival I had begrudged back in October is now history.  I captured little of its beauty on camera preferring to keep my gloves on and keep moving… But with the advent of spring sunshine I am back in business.  Here are the highlights so far.

The big moment of March was the arrival of grandbaby #8–Madelyn Grace in Powell River!  So I had a handy excuse to abandon the snow and get a sneak preview of spring’s finery.

Of course the best bit was baby cuddles and visits with our three daughters…

And spending time with the big brother!

But then there was the sea to savor…

and the picnics and the barbecues and the hikes…

By the time I was ready to fly home Magnolia blooms were dancing in spring’s freshness and I just couldn’t get enough of them!

Now I’m home…

So pleased to find that spring is on the move here too!

God’s world is so full of His beauty!

Thanks for letting me share my corner of it with you ( :

Fall Roadtrip

We returned just over a week ago from a delightful road trip.

There isn’t a better time of year for a roadtrip than the fall, and certainly no better reason than visiting family!

So with Jim’s seasonal work having fallen away we drove off for the triangle tour to visit the far-flung grands and their parents ( : and assorted aunties  ( :

And it was beautiful–the weather for traveling, the trees turning, and our favorite people to get to spend time with…

The first wobbly side of the triangle– 425 miles to Prince George

Segment two of our wobbly-sided triangle–550 miles to Powell River

Home to our newest grand one–JAXON! who has just turned 5 months old, and has already had two hair cuts!

The weather in Powell River was stunningly unseasonable for October; we even got out for three tandem rides, including the daunting rigors of Wildwood Hill.

And it was a great treat to get to spend (Canadian) Thanksgiving with all three of our girls, and their men…

And to take a walk all together to one of my favorite destinations–well, that was just delicious soul food!

The final leg of the triangle home

This stint was the longest; 645 miles plus ferry waits, which thankfully were minimal (whew!), makes for a long day.

But it was oh so worth it!

And the hillsides were painted in fiery reds and oranges, more stunning than I recall ever seeing them!  But then again, that’s one of the perks of old age, isn’t it?–you forget things and get to experience the wonder all over again!

He has arrived!!!

The timing was perfect. I’d booked my flight before the announcement came, but just just two days after baby arrived so did my flight!

Then happy surprise–at the ferry dock, for the sailing across to Powell River, the brand-new Salish Orca pulled up for her maiden passenger voyage!  I couldn’t have timed that better.  And so a once-mundane crossing became a time of exploration and picture-taking to capture all the newness…

But the real bit of eagerness and wonder lay just ahead… my daughter’s first baby–a strapping 8 1/2 + pound boy with a toddler’s head-full of dark hair,
just waiting to be whisked home from the hospital ( ;

And oh how captivating…

What an expressive little tot at just over a week old!

For eight days I got to hang around watching JAXON take in his new world,

and finding great delight myself in the world all a-bloom there…

It was SO good to be back ‘home’–for visits and walks with friends and quiet sits in the sun by the sea…

The crossing back to the airport was a melancholy one as I sat watching the shoreline diminish… where now three daughters and one precious grandbaby reside…

But the Lord worked it out that there would be friends on the other side too who would host me for the afternoon and see me off at day’s end…

And I needn’t even have dreaded my return to the bleak-slow-to-waken-after-winter prairies.  For in my absence spring had come here too!

We serve a glorious King who lavishes us all our days with grace upon grace!
