Small Town USA Parade

There’s no place quite like small town USA on the Fourth of July

And this year we found ourselves in the middle of a parade with a host of riders from the Northwest Tandem Rally!

Canadians got to participate too…

The mayor led the charge…

along with a friendly Indian…

…and the local stagecoach.

But the winning entry was none other than the Tandem Rally folks! And now there’s a trophy for the organizers to tote through life…

Back at the rodeo grounds when all was said and done…the mute beasts wondered what was the big deal…and where did all those tents spring from?!

If you look really close, almost dead center you’ll find the tiniest tent in the field—that’s ours—and contrary to my significant doubts (and initial complaints) we both fit in it, as did the air mattress (just barely). And sleep was not a problem–we logged 182 miles in three days of riding in the hot summer sun. Sleep is sweetest when you’ve worked for it!

We got our girl back…

We fetched her from the airport in Bellingham.

But while we were anticipating her return we got in a beautiful 40 mile ride through the countryside in the Star-Spangled land …

(It was Memorial Day weekend)

We made sure she got in a little riding too… in the most beautiful city park we know—Stanley Park

It’s good to have her home and good to see all God has done in her time away…

Cincinnati Sightings…

No trip is complete without a bike ride…My sister courageously consented to go riding with me!

We had a grand bit of pedaling down a quiet wooded trail along the Little Miami River…

We stopped along the way to have a closer look at wayside flowers, of course……completing a delightful 26 miles or so before our rental time elapsed.

If you’re ever in these parts look up this paved trail running from Loveland to the ‘beyond’ in both directions. Peaceful, quaint, and refreshing terrain, with NO HILLS!

And then there’s downtown Cincinnati—an interesting mix of old and new…

in various stages of decay or restoration…

But I am a walk-in-the-woods sort of girl…

And these woods are so like the ones by which I grew up.

The may apples are raising their umbrellas…And the Violets and Spring Beauties are showing their faces, just as they did in the springs of my childhood.

Only we are now children only in our memories…

And they are good ones!
