Flying North to meet the new one ( :

Just two and a half months overdue, it was time for me to fly…

and meet baby Tiffany and try to catch up with her big sister, Alexis who is a very busy little somebody!

Record-breaking snowfall accompanied my visit!

It makes for a much-coveted and refreshing snack!

When it was time to go, we almost found a way for Lexi to come along…

But who would be left to entertain the baby?

Johnston Canyon in January

Every season has its beauty.  A canyon in summer is quite another thing than those same rock walls and water in a deep freeze.

Now we come well-bundled and walk gingerly wearing ice grippers, very glad of the fresh snow to give traction to the icy pavement underneath. (pictured: Jim and his sister)

Frozen waterfalls inspire different responses in different folks; I am content with snapping pictures.

Others must climb them!

But though a weekend outing is lovely, my best days are home-body days.

With winter’s progress the sun’s ascent has shifted so that the light slants in through one little window for just a bit in the morning. I time taking out the garbage to catch its rays while it crosses the dip in the mountains that otherwise block its radiance…

And I find that there is nothing quite so exquisite in winter as sunshine on the eyelids–it is balm to the soul!

Light is sweet, and it is pleasant for the eyes to see the sun. Eccl.11:7 ESV

Snow. It has come.

No sooner were we back from our wonderful fall-tacular road trip then it began to snow; the very next morning there was a light layer of frosting on everything, ready or not!

But it was not enough to amount to anything ski-able.  So…as is customary at this time of year, the local Nordic Center unpacked all the snow it had saved under its great pile of sawdust all through an unseasonably hot summer…and laid a Cross-country ski course for all the athletes who come for miles around to get a jump-start on their training.

It was quite a peculiar process to watch…

But the product made everyone happy–kids and skiers alike!

Then followed some quintessential fall days and we had the grandkids out for the weekend…

Perfect timing, for after that the snow came in earnest!

And now we are able to ski right out the back door!
