Waiting…

“The whole creation waits with eager longing…”

… for one more snow to pass…
P1000654
…one more spring to come…

“For who hopes for what he sees?”
P1000659
“But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.” (Rom.8:19,24)
P1000679
“Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord.  See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives the early and late rains.  You also, be patient.  Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand…” (James 5:7)

When an unexpected snowfall dumps cold and wet on your springing hopes, take heart—there is ‘an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison’  just around the corner, and in the meantime the power that raised Jesus from the dead surges in the veins of His kin ready to burst forth in the glory of the sons of God revealed.  For this all creation waits.  In this hope we were saved. ( II Cor.4:17; Rom.8:24)

Let’s hope on beneath the cold of snow and ice, for we are very much alive and well!
Bless you!

Just had to include this picture of latent heat, waiting to be released–with acknowledgments to the strong man who keeps us in warm comfort all the wet winter long…

Fall Color

Have you ever noticed how lovely it is in the fall to have the yellow line on the road match the changing leaves.  I love it when things are color co-ordinated ( :

Had a spot of sun today and a rambling walk with Rachel– lots of mushrooms around this year.  Sure wish I knew where to find the edible ones.  These can earn you some money!  For just as the mushrooms are sprouting up in the fall  little store fronts appear to purchase yours,  like “Marg’s” on the corner.  Problem is the  haunts of the coveted ‘pine’ mushroom are a well kept secret among persons in the ‘know’.  Even friends and neighbors are loathe to part with their knowledge of these things.  So, I just keep to my trails and take pictures of the odd mushroom and leave them be.

This picture is a ‘cheat’. I repositioned this little threesome for a clearer photo.  Mushrooms don’t typically grow in bright beds of moss…

Ooo.  Somebody made a boo-boo here.  These beauties are toxic!
IMG_3053
This strange bit of growth looks like it ought to be under the sea in a coral reef or something…

Ahh the palette of a True Artist…

One man’s work (get raking!) another’s splendor… For now I get to take the pictures but one of these years I want to have one of these beautiful little maples of my own…

Nope. Not edible. Just picturesque.

I’ve been watching this little oak tree from year to year struggling to gain momentum.  He seems to be coming into his own this year and what a beautiful wrap he’s put on for the fall.  I found the little ring of mushrooms at his feet curious.  Do you suppose he was fertilized with mushroom manure?

“…then shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy before the Lord,  for he comes, he comes to judge the earth… in righteousness.” (Ps.96:12,13)
How might a tree sing for joy? Can you hear this one?

Spring Sprang!

While we were away,  Spring came creeping into ‘my’ woods…
IMG_1625
It seems a bit reluctant this year, but not this trailing flower!

The salmonberry are the first of a procession of berries to provide bear  (and people) food.   While the bears wait for the salmonberries to ripen, skunk cabbage does the trick…We’ve had our first bear visitor of the season already.  There was a great big one up a tree out back today!

Lots of wild strawberries are blooming on the side of Scout Mountain.  I have yet to be there in time to find a ripe berry though…

If you look close, even the lichen are dressing up for spring with their little red caps.

IMG_1639 These pretty blue ‘weeds’ attempt to take over the park grass every year at this time making clouds of blue in amongst the green.  I liked them so much I transplanted some to our lawn!

And with these bright little faces of dandelion & daisy, I bid you a happy springtime!
