What a sight to see!

We’re torn between covering miles and taking in sights.  Couldn’t pass up the Grand Canyon…
We arrived in time to catch the sun’s rays setting on the canyon.

…and then tucked in for a shivery night.
Goodnight moon.

Temperatures fell below freezing and we wished we had spent a little extra and plugged in our heater!

In the morning we took a little hike down into the canyon to a favorite point–‘Oooh, Ahhh Point’  it’s called.  Most of the other hikers were headed for the bottom of the canyon, an overnight venture.  We were just in it for the views and a little exercise after so much sitting…

If you look closely you can see the trail zagging back and forth down the canyon wall…

This tower was the last sight to see.  It was built in the 30’s as an overlook of the canyon.  You can climb to the top up a spiral staircase.  I love peeking out all the little windows.  Today it was thronged with so many visitors speaking so many languages that the tower of Babel seems a fitting name …

And always, at every sightseeing spot, there are curios and souvenirs to buy… These sheep caught my eye.  They’re a product of the Navajo nation.  I’ll let the picture be my souvenir…

And that was a sampling of the  sights we saw this day. I’ll quit with this one–a plaque mounted on a studio wall overlooking the canyon. And I add an ‘AMEN’.

Down by the Sea…

IMG_0493

A little tired and short on enthusiasm last Friday, I chose the sea as my destination… To shorten the distance I drove to the head of the logging road that heads down toward the sea. Heading cross-country in the general direction of another known road, I hoped to make a quick hike of it…It wasn’t. The land separating me from the sea was once a poplar plantation. Having been cleared of trees, it is fast becoming a thicket, criss-crossed with 4-wheeler tracks and ruts and mud… I was not enthused when the track I chose took me on a detour in precisely the opposite direction I wished to be heading! This seed pod was a welcome bit of beauty on an otherwise dreary trek…

But at last, I hit the road to Gibson’s Beach and headed downhill to the sea.

It is always a refreshing sight.

The tide was out and I had the beach all to myself, except for this heron…

He was busy fishing and eyed my intrusion with suspicion, but stayed put in his pool while I wandered by…

Looking for an alternate route home I espied a little trail heading into the bush, highlighted by this little wonder!

And what a treat I was in for– a freshly renovated trail running all along the seaside just inside the edge of the woods. Looked like it had just just been worked on. Fresh sawdust, bright little bridges, freshly cleared

Suddenly the day was brighter and the walk not such a plodding affair–a fine reward for the effort of getting out on a lackluster day. You just never know where your feet may take you once you get them moving!

Try it and see!

“You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”

Seeing beyond the Fog…

The season for fog is upon us. Dense, cold, wet, unshakable FOG.
It can put a damper on your very soul, unless somehow you can rise above it.
Jim invited me for an outing today, to go see if our little Scout Mountain was above it all.
I’m so glad I went. It saved my afternoon from sinking into an abyss of gloomy reflections.
Here’s what we found!

All this fabulous footage is by Jim.
He took it in with his new camera, Louie with his nose, and I with my pen…
Once again we are given this living parable, that despite the fog that dims our view some days, God is still on the throne, His sun still shining. Though we may not see Him or feel Him near He is there, just beyond the fog…

“Your throne, O God, is forever and ever.
Psalm 45:6
