Well, we’re on the road as of Tuesday, March 31st.  Got off to a slow start with a stop at the American Embassy in Vancouver to apply for the girls’ American Passports and then being detained at the U.S. border till everyone was happy…

… now climbing Grant’s Pass in Oregon.  It’s raining.  Elevation: 4310 ft.  Not much sign of winter here now.  Just the odd patch of forgotten snow…

The only ‘snow’ at lower elevations was the cherry blossom confetti.

Here’s Cottage Grove, Oregon in retrospect.  Spent the night here (Wed)  with friends…

Now just crossing the Oregon border into California.  Noticeably more arid on this side.  Not raining anymore.

The first rest stop is decked in flowers…
Cherry blossoms with bees buzzing…

Forsythia bushes (I’m fond of these as I grew up with these yellow tokens of spring in my front yard)

…and of course, daffodils…

The sun seems hotter and brighter and the air noticeably drier and warmer now.   Some travelers are in shorts.  Wardrobe adjustments will be in order for us very soon!! There’s definitely a reason California is such a popular destination!  Pines now line the highway and mountains the horizon– Mount Shasta, and another unnamed obviously volcanic mountain.  Its contents rubble the landscape all around…

We will drive a few more hours and then settle in for the night at a State Park before heading into Southern California and out across the desert to Arizona…

Will keep you posted…
